Steps to Use LAPS to Install a Driver or Software
Here’s how a user can use LAPS to install a driver by holding down the SHIFT key and right-clicking on the driver file to run it as a local administrator.

Retrieve the Local Admin Password via LAPS
The assigned technician will provide the local administrator password and expiration details in the ticket.

Locate the Driver File
- Download or obtain the driver file that you need to install (usually a .exe, .msi, or .inf file

SHIFT + Right-Click to Run as a Different User
- Navigate to the folder where the file was downloaded.

Hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard.
- While holding SHIFT, right-click on the file.
- In the context menu, select Run as different user (this option only appears when holding the SHIFT key).

Enter Local Administrator Credentials
- When prompted, enter the credentials for the local administrator account:

Username:
.\YWCAStaff
(The dot represents the local computer, and YWCAStaff is the default local admin account name.

Password: Paste the local admin password you received in the ticket.

Follow the Installation Steps
- The driver installation process will start with administrative privileges.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Restart the Computer (If Necessary)
- After the installation is complete, the system may prompt you to restart. Save any open work and restart if required.
This method allows you to install the driver with administrative privileges using the LAPS-provided local admin password, without needing to log out or switch users. It’s an efficient way to elevate privileges on demand while maintaining security.
